Pilango Cider has won a silver medal in the Design & Packaging category of the International Cider Challenge (ICC) 2017.


The accolade, awarded for the packaging of Pilango’s Liberated and Hopped ciders, underpins Pilango’s mission to set the standard in the UK’s fledgling craft cider market.


There’s a saying that consumers ‘eat with their eyes’, so it was vital that the design of our packaging reflected what we think is an excellent quality product inside. We’re therefore thrilled that Pilango’s design has been recognised by the ICC judging panel,” said Pilango Cider founder, Victor Zasadzki. “As we grow, we hope our packaging will strike a chord with our target consumers as much as it did with the ICC’s judging panel.


2017 is the eighth year of the ICC, which is run by Drinks Retailing News. Amongst this year’s 200 entries, ciders came from as far afield as Japan, Australia and South Africa.


The International Cider Challenge has become recognised as one of the world’s most respected competitions. It is by far the world’s most hotly contested cider competition and winning any medal is a fantastic achievement,” said Samantha Halliday, commercial director at competition organiser Drinks Retailing News.


Pilango Cider represents a flamboyant cider butterfly, turning heads, galvanizing taste buds, and collecting and creating distinctive ciders for curious drinkers. The different colours used to illustrate the butterflies on the ciders’ labels celebrate the mix of apples that go into making the ciders, being begged, borrowed, donated and saved from languish in gardens.


Pilango Cider’s packaging was designed by A-Side studio, based in Cornwall.


News of the award comes as Pilango releases its second cider: Hopped – a craft cider infused with hops. It joins Pilango’s debut cider, Liberated, launched in 2016.
