Celebrate English Wine Week with Pilango!

To Celebrate English Wine Week, which runs from Saturday May 25 to Sunday June 2nd, come down to our shop and bar in Fulham and enjoy a glass (or bottle) of fizz.

We are showcasing four superb English sparkling wines from four fantastic producers, as well as the sparkling ciders and apple wines they also produce.

Pop in and see if you can spot the difference between a sparkling wine and Champagne-method cider!

Here are the four English Sparkling wines and some of the ciders they also produce.

Hush Heath Leslie’s Reserve (11.5%).

Named after the producer’s wife, Leslie, this Traditional Method English sparkling wine is made from selected cuvées and blended for a young, fresh style. Grape varieties included are 55% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Meunier. Aged on lees for a minimum of 12 months. This has a clean varietal fruit character balanced palate with crisp acidity and a touch of sweetness. Refreshing flavours of lime and redcurrant. Bright gold with attractive pink highlights and a fine sustained bead. Fresh and clean aroma with hints of brioche and red apple.

Hush Heath Sparkling apple wine (8%).

Winemakers Owen Elias and Victoria Ash are the team behind this crisp, refreshing apple wine made from 100% Cox, Bramley and Egremont Russet apples, all grown and hand-picked at Hush Heath Estate. 

Pale gold by sight and a clean, crisp nose with citric and ripe green & red apple aromas.  With a soft creamy mousse, It finishes with the winemakers' own dosage adding weight, a hint of sweetness and a clean, lingering, fresh apple character.

Enjoy with cheeses or fruits, or on its own to celebrate any occasion

Oxney Estate

Oxney Organic Estate is the largest single estate organic vineyard in the UK, just under 14 hectares and based in Beckley, East Sussex, near Tenterden.

 ‘Producing organic still and sparkling wines using only homegrown grapes and natural winemaking ethos.‘

Oxney Classic Sparkling wine (12%)

A blend of 45% Pinot Noir, 47% Pinot Meunier and 8% Chardonnay, aged and fermented in used French oak barrels. After 2nd fermentation, aged on lees for 24 months.

Complex flavours of ripe orchard fruits, supported by toasty, biscuit development.

Oxney Cider (8%)

Bright and elegant nose with a subtle floral lift and aromas of hedgerow blossom, freshly picked apples backed up with a hint of toast.

Crisp and clean palate with notes of red apple skin & warm honey on the finish.

Chapel Down Non-vintage Brut Sparkling wine (12%)

Chapel Down are one of the biggest and best producers of wine in southern England. This blend of classic grape varieties (Pinot Noir Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Meunier) from their Kent vineyards, vinified in the traditional method. An elegant English sparkling wine with aromas of red apple, lemongrass and freshly baked bread together with hints of strawberry and quince on the palate and fine persistent bubbles.

After hand harvesting, the fruit undergoes cool fermentation followed by full malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures on its fine lees in tank for six months. Once bottled, the wine is then aged on its lees for approximately 18 months.

Chapel Down Curious Apple (5.2%)

Fully ripe Bramley and Rubens apples are hand-picked from the Garden of England. Drawing inspiration from their winemaking, Chapel Down have created a premium cider using Bacchus wine yeast which is fresh and crisp with green apple aromas and hints of Gallia elderflower, melon, citrus and kiwi fruit. An aromatic cider made. Gentle sparkle, dry. Great tangy acidity and a mouth-coating fruit aftertaste that lingers.

Enjoy with a fish pie.

Sixteen Ridges

Sixteen Ridges vineyard is based in Worcestershire on a sheltered hillside with views along the river Severn valley. The vineyard was first established by Simon Day, with 6 acres of Pinot Noir being planted in 2007.

The grapes currently grown at Sixteen Ridges are Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc and Bacchus, with a focus on sparkling wines and a number of excellent still interpretations of Pinot Noir.

Vivacious sparkling made with Pinot Noir and Seyval Blanc grapes. Lemon; baked apple; honeysuckle and hazelnut character, and an elegant long finish.
